Spray drying is the process of atomizing a liquid feedstock in the form of a slurry or solution into fine droplets. The heated drying gas then converts the atomized particles into a dry powder by evaporating the liquid phase. The atomization process can be done by a rotating wheel connected to a high speed drive or nozzle atomization system. Both approaches offer advantages for specific product properties, including particle size and distribution, density, shape and morphology, and dispersibility.
Rotary atomization is the most flexible method of controlling feed rate and dryer operation while maintaining desired dry product specifications. Combined with a specially designed atomizing wheel and liquid feed distributor, the rotary atomizer can accommodate a wide variety of liquid feeds, including milled products.
The new spray dryer is enhanced with an innovative gas disperser, which ensures optimal contact of the heated drying gas with the atomized spray cloud, increasing the performance and efficiency of the dryer. The proprietary explosion vent protection system is suitable for new and existing installations, meets the latest code requirements, and is flush mounted, providing a hygienic seal design.
The spray drying system provides the most efficient product separation and gas cleaning technology. Use high-efficiency cyclone separators, bag filters or wet scrubbers for pollution control to meet the most stringent factory discharge requirements. Fully integrated thermal oxidation systems can also be used to remove VOCs and other emissions.
