Corn steep liquor is a by-product of corn starch production. The manufacture of cornstarch first soaks corn kernels in sulfurous acid, and the soaking solution is concentrated to make a yellow-brown liquid called corn steep liquor. Corn steep liquor is rich in soluble protein, auxin and some precursor substances, and contains about 40% to 50% solid matter. Corn steep liquor is a commonly used organic nitrogen source for microbial growth, and it also promotes the synthesis of antibiotics, such as penicillin.

The so-called high-speed centrifugal spray dryer uses a centrifugal atomizer to dry some liquid materials, and is one of the most widely used dryers in industrial production. Spray drying is a widely used process for forming and drying liquids. It is suitable for producing powdery and granular solid products from solution, emulsion, suspension and pasty liquid raw materials. Therefore, spray drying is an ideal process when exact criteria are met for particle size distribution, residual moisture content, bulk density and particle shape.
